The silk painting is stretched onto acid-free foam core backing using acid-free tape or silk pins before framing. A reputable framer will assist patrons in selecting a frame to complement the painting. If desired a linen wrap matte may be placed between the silk and the frame, which provides a nice textural contrast to the silk. Glass is traditionally used in framing; however, broken glass can damage artwork. To reduced the potential for damage, framing acrylic sheets may be used which are impact resistant and lightweight. Acrylic sheets may be desirable when the silk painting is to be hung in a high-risk area such as a dining room or in a brightly lit room, otherwise the raw silk may be framed without glass or acrylic sheeting. UV protection (conservation grade) and non-glare acrylic sheets help to preserve the painting from harmful UV radiation and offer better optical clarity for brightly lit interiors.
